ACL Division 2 Senior Result and Play Off Fixture

Division 2, Senior, Saturday 15th November 2008

Edendork 0-13 Moortown 0-06

The seniors pulled off another great win on Saturday in the League over Moortown. This result now leaves us in a relegation play off against Tattyreagh on Saturday at 2:00pm in Killeeshil. The team approached the game against Moortown knowing how imperative it was to win, defeat would have meant relegation. However the team had been playing with some confidence after winning two in a row in the previous weeks and despite some early nerves and numerous wides, the team held their composure and eventually ran out winners by 0-13 to 0-6. Scorers on the day were Karl McGuckin 0-03, David Toner 0-03, Joe McGuckin 0-02, Niall Morgan 0-02, Peter Mallon, Justin Corr and Sean O’Connor 0-01 each. This play off will decide if we stay in Division 2 football next year or drop down into Junior football. This is the most important game in the recent history of senior football in the club. Support on the day would be greatly appreciated. Training continues on Thursday night in Mid Sports Arena, everyone on the pitch for 8:00pm.

Edendork St Malachy's GAC Clubhouse destroyed by fire

Our clubhouse, The Des Fox Pavilion, was destroyed in a fire early on Saturday morning. Peter O' Connor, Club Chairman stated " A community resource has been lost, it is very upsetting as this is a focal point of the whole community in this area."  Everything inside the clubhouse has been destroyed and the walls have been rendered unsafe. The building will have to be demolished.

Due to these unfortunate circumstances the facilities at Edendork St Malachy’s GAC are no longer available. We would like to thank the support offered by our members and friends, neighbours and Edendork Primary School, as well as support and kind words of encouragement offered by all GAA and other sporting clubs and organisations in the area and from far afield. It has been very much appreciated.
